October Lunch & Learn: Disability Rights with Sarah Jane Hunt

When: Thursday, October 20 | 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM CT
Where: Zoom

Disability rights are human rights. Everyone deserves to be included and live a full life in their community — accessing the same public spaces, housing opportunities, education, and work as anyone else. Many people with disabilities experience multiple risk factors for human and civil rights violations. Although the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) became law in 1990, discrimination still exists. Attitudes, poor enforcement of the law, underfunded programs, and fiscal difficulties in state and local government budgets all contribute to the ongoing need to be vigilant advocates for full inclusion and equity.

For October’s Lunch and Learn, we are excited to welcome attorney Sarah Jane Hunt, who will talk about disability advocacy and its intersection with other civil rights issues. Hunt is an accomplished attorney who focuses her practice on civil rights, employment, and special education disputes. She has extensive experience representing sober homes, disability rights agencies, and individuals in fair housing matters in federal and state court. Sarah Jane also litigates collective and class actions relating to unpaid wages and overtime under both the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and stage wage and hour laws.
