Kids Community Closet (KCC) provides underserved children with clothing, coats, backpacks, school supplies, and personal care items in their school to allow them to attend school every day, which maximizes their learning potential.

Who Do We Help?

Kids Community Closet helps students who attend elementary schools where at least 80% of students qualify to receive free/reduced price lunch. The program also helps schools and faculty members provide for their students without the burden of paying for items out of their own pocket. We serve 7 school districts throughout the city and county.

How Do We Help?

NCJWSTL works with school social workers, counselors, and nurses to determine the needs of underserved children at their school. When a child needs an item from the closet, they are discreetly assisted by school staff and parents are notified.

Each school has two NCJWSTL liaisons who work with school personnel to stock and maintain the closet. We continually adapt inventory at each school to meet their evolving needs as the seasons change and as the children grow.

Volunteers pick up and deliver what the school needs from the NCJWSTL office. The frequency of visits depends on each individual school’s needs and the availability of the volunteers.

What Is Our Impact?

We opened the first Kids Community Closet in 2008. Since then, we have built 29 closets serving 33 schools and have the capacity to help over 11,000 children on any given day. Attendance rates have increased at the schools we serve.
